Following fresh complaints from the customers, the telecom regulator has reportedly asked Reliance Communications(RCom) to smoothen the process for customers wanting to exit its network in circles where it switched off services from December 1.
Trai has asked RCom to keep the unique porting codes(UPCs) – issued following its earlier direction dated November 3 – active till the end -January, according to an ET report.
Originally, Trai had asked the company to keep these porting codes active until December 31.
In a notice issued on Monday, Trai asked RCom to keep “all UPCs expiring on December 31, 2017, valid till 23:59:59 hours of January 31, 2018, in the interest of the company’s subscribers”, the report said.
RCom had shut its wireless business at the end of November.
Last December Reliance Communications said that it has entered into a binding agreement with Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited (RJIO) for sale of wireless spectrum, tower, fiber and media convergence node (MCN) assets.
The deal is slated to bring relief to RCom which is reeling under debt of around RS45,000 crore. Reliance Jio will acquire all the assets without any previous liabilities attached to them.
